Chris Runs for Alzheimers UK

Chris has decided to don his running shoes, get training and fit and run 10K in aid of Azheimers UK.

We asked Chris a bit about his decision to do this…

Why are you running this marathon for Alzheimer’s?

My Nan has now been lost to this horrible disease. She no longer has any memory of us and finds visits very upsetting so my brother and I are trying to do our bit by raising money. I hope that the time will come when this disease becomes a thing of the past.

Have you run a marathon before?

Blimey, It’s not a marathon thank goodness! Just 10k which is more than enough for now. No, I have never run in a 10k event like this before so I’m really looking forward to it. I’m told the atmosphere is fantastic so Im hoping the buzz will push me to try and reach a sub 1hr 10k…which Im told is pretty good. My fastest time so far has been just over an hour.

How much training have you done?

Lots – I have enrolled in a lifestyle change plan in order to lose some of the excess weight and get a training plan in order. No Booze, No Dairy, No processed foods, Distance running on the Treadmill as well as HIIT training. And every Thursday evening I go for a run around Bristol Harbourside. Which now the weather is looking up is far more pleasant than during the colder and wetter months!

Tell us where and when is the event

Its the Bristol 10k which kicks off in millennium square and then heads out to the partway and then after a couple of gruelling kilometres turns around and heads back into town. Its on Sunday May the 5th…which also happens to be my Birthday!

How much are you trying to raise?

I have set a goal of £500 for this.

Dementia has unfortunately become a rather important part of my life. My lovely Nan has now been lost to this awful disease.
