We made BBC1 once again. Watch the clip below…
Meet Matt Sims, MD of Motorhome Holiday Company. He’s the man you’ve probably spoken with on the phone or in our offices, who’s responded to your emails, guided you on your motorhome travels and ensured the team supports you throughout your planning and booking stages and throughout your road trip.
Matt Sims, go-to guy for the BBC and the closest thing Bristol has to a superstar
(overlooking Banksy, Maisie Williams, Massive Attack, Tony Robinson, Cary Grant, Paul Potts…).
Fear not, this article isn’t about telling Matt how wonderful he is (though we wouldn’t mind a bonus, and we reckon we’ll get some stick when he discovers we’ve written it), there’s actually a serious reason behind it.
Over the past few years, Matt’s become the authority on all things motorhome for our friends at the BBC and other TV, radio and media organisations including our own trade press with articles and comments in magazines such as Motorhome Monthly Magazine (MMM) and Practical Motorhome and many more.
You probably already know that Motorhome Holiday Company have provided motorhomes for BBC & Channel 4 productions, including Poldark, but did you know that Matt has also become a spokesman for Auntie on subjects ranging from holidays, pet passports, local businesses, Brexit and even Covid-19?
From humble beginnings
It began with local newspaper articles on new business in the Bristol area, particularly looking at how Brexit will impact them. Very quickly, BBC Bristol booked Matt to talk about the subject in more detail, then TV came calling in the shape of BBC’s six o’clock news programme. They gave Matt a platform on which to explain how Motorhome Holiday Company is preparing for both ‘deal’ and ‘no deal’ outcomes to Brexit, and the potential impact on us and businesses like ours.
They questioned the UK’s potential status as ‘third class’ country and the issue of pet passports no longer being acceptable in Europe and would it bother us. Naturally, it ‘bothers’ us a great deal, not least because pets would need to go through a four-month process prior to travelling in Europe, but that TV opportunity gave Matt the chance to explain our plans and how we could guide our customers through the Brexit minefield when planning European motorhome holidays.
Thankfully Boris struck a deal and once again Matt has been asked for his input on the matter from a leisure and tourism, perspective.
More recently, with Covid-19 having an impact on businesses globally, Matt has been called upon by BBC Points West to explain how holidays can be reimagined as UK-wide road trips and localised staycations. He’s detailed such matters as our extensive cleaning regime to ensure every one of our vehicles is hygienic and Covid-safe for your motorhome hire, and he’s even been promoted to national news broadcasts, such was the response.
He recently hit the 6pm national news bulletin commenting on Brexit and the potential impact on businesses, which lead to him being invited as a repeat featured guest on Wake Up to Money on BBC 5 Live to discuss, wait for it, Brexit and Covid-19. Now the FSB and Chamber of Commerce Magazines have got in on the Matt Sims act with him regularly featuring.
What’s in store next?
And now things are about to get really exciting. We didn’t tell you this, but there’s a new UK version of the hit US TV series, The Profit, in which a multi-millionaire drops in on a small, growing business and invests heavily to allow expansion – and Motorhome Holiday Company has been shortlisted! Yup, it’s all getting pretty exciting around here with Bristol’s newest superstar.
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter how much we tell you that Matt’s an honest, reliable guy and a fount of knowledge, but if the BBC regards him as their go-to guy and the news outlets are seeking his advice, we reckon that’s an endorsement you can trust.
