Best things to do on holiday in Ceredigion

Venture to this Welsh county and youโ€™ll discover the perfect mix of coast and countryside. Except you won’t find the funfairs and crowded beaches on this coastline. Ceredigion is one of the least spoiled holiday regions, with blue sea, sandy beaches and even dolphins playing in the surf.
Filled with blue flag beaches, mountains, lakes, waterfalls, Castles, pretty fishing villages and traditional market towns, there is plenty to fill your week on holiday in Ceredigion.

Cardigan Bay Club Site, Llwynhelyg

A peaceful campsite with views across the countryside, the Cardigan Bay Club Site is perfect for those looking to explore Ceredigionโ€™s beaches. There are toilet and shower facilities on-site, a children’s play area and a designated walking area. This dog-friendly campsite is a nature-lover’s paradise and plenty of attractions for all the family.

Morfa Farm, Llanrhystud

Morfa Farm is a peaceful and scenic family run campsite, providing a warm and friendly atmosphere for guests. With โ€˜walk onโ€™ access to the beach and provision for tents, tourers and motorhomes. With a site shop, games/snooker room, tennis court, private slipway and childrenโ€™s play area this site is great for families.

Nant Y Croi, Cardigan

A peaceful relaxing site on a working farm, Nant Y Croi has plenty of space for bicycle rides and games, making it a great site for families with small children. You can even take some carrots to feed the donkeys and horses. The magnificent sea views also mean it is a great place for dolphin spotting and watching the sunsets.

Best for Town: Cardigan

Cardigan Bay

Cardigan is an important cultural centre, with narrow streets and medieval castle ruins at its heart. This picturesque town has mainly Victorian and Georgian architecture with its quaint independent shops, cafes and restaurants. The Pembrokeshire and Cardigan coastal paths meet here, which means it is popular with walkers.

Best for Train Ride: Vale of Rheidol Railway

Take a ride through the dramatic Rheidol valley on a restored Edwardian steam train. Travelling from Aberystwyth to Devils Bridge Falls, where youโ€™ll see the famous dramatic waterfall that plunges into a deep, wooded gorge. Look out for red kites and buzzards as you ride through ancient woodlands, fields and mountains with stunning scenery and views along the way.

Best for traditional Welsh Estate: Llanerchaeron House and Gardens

Near the town of Aberaeron is a traditional Welsh estate with villas, servants quarters, stables and farm buildings, all set in a beautiful landscape. The 18th Century walled garden has produced fruit and vegetables for over 200 years and the working farm has Black Welsh Cattle, Llanwenog sheep and rare Welsh Pigs.

Best for families: Penbryn Beach

A popular destination for families due to its soft sand, award-winning cleanliness and beauty, Penbryn Beach is a mile in length. That means there is plenty of room to spread out and at low tide you can explore the cave. There is a 400 metre walk from the National Trust car park, which has a small fee. For the James Bond fans out there, this beach was a location for Die Another Day. Please be aware there are no lifeguards on this beach and a dog ban from June โ€“ October.

Best for surfing: Llangrannog Beach

Llangrannog Beach

A family friendly sandy beach sat between craggy cliffs, Llangrannog is great for water sports, surfing and sailing with pubs, cafes and car parks nearby. Dogs are allowed on part of the beach and lifeguards are on in summer. At low tide you can walk across to Cilcorth beach.

Best for rock pools: Cilborth Beach

Home to Carreg Bica, an intriguing rock formation, said to be the tooth of Bica the giant, that was ripped out due to toothache and tossed onto the beach. Cilborth beach has rock pools teaming with marine life and small caves to explore. Dogs are allowed all year round and access to the beach is either from Llagrannog beach at low tide or from the coastal path.

Aberaeron

The colourful houses of Aberaeron

An enchanting town with colourful Georgian houses, shining like jewels set around the harbour. There are restaurants, independent shops and craft centres, with 248 listed buildings in this single town. It is starting to become a foodie delight and hosts many festivals and events throughout the year.

Dolphins

See dolphins off the coast of Ceredigion

A must see whilst visiting Ceredigion, keep your eyes peeled for Bottlenose Dolphins. They are spotted all year round here with boat trips, however they can be just as easy to spot from the coastline.

Bwlch Nant Yr Arian Visitor Centre definitely has something for everyone. See red kites in all their glory with daily feedings; walk the forest trails, hiking trails and the kidโ€™s animal puzzle trail; go mountain biking, running or horse riding or trek to a viewpoint. Kids can run wild in the childrenโ€™s play area or even learn to climb in a mountain skills park! There is a cafรฉ and shop on site for refreshments.

Wales has 870 miles of coastal path that covers the entire length of the country’s coastline. The 60 mile Ceredigion coastal path takes you through many towns and villages along this spectacular coastline, rich in history, wildlife, flora and fauna.

Eat this

Caws Teifi Cheese

Started in 1982 and now the longest established artisan cheese makers in Wales. Their cheese is made from organic raw cow’s milk and can be found at local markets and events at the farm.

New Quay Honey Farm

Watch the Bees hard at work, learn how they communicate through dancing and see how honey is produced at New Quay Honey Farm. Mead is also produced here in the Meadery and both can be tasted in the shop and tearooms.

Drink this

Da Mhile Distillery

An organic distillery located on a family farm in Llandysul, Da Mhile makes a wide range of spirits inspired by the surroundings and environmental ethos. Gins are infused with seaweed and whiskeys are aged for 20 yrs in sherry barrels. You can also find vodkas, rum and liqueurs made here. Tours and tastings are available throughout the year.

Watch the sunset

Grab your favourite drink from Da Mhile and head to Tresaith beach to watch the sunset. With itโ€™s tumbling waterfall, this small sandy bay is a great place to relax and look at the views across the bay. You may even spot seals and dolphins in the water.
