We are delighted to announce that we have just been accredited as a Living Wage employer! This means that everybody we employ is paid not just the national minimum wage, but the real Living Wage. We are proud to value every member of our team – without them, we wouldnโt be able to call ourselves an award-winning motorhome hire company.
What is the Living Wage accreditation?
The Government raised the minimum wage for over 25s in 2016 and called this rise the National Living Wage. But there is still a gap between the National Living Wage and the real cost of living, which we are conscious is rising. The Living Wage is an hourly rate that is calculated independently each year and takes into account the real cost of living. It also recognises that under 25s have the same living costs as everyone else. We, along with other Living Wage employers, have committed to best practice by choosing to go beyond the statutory minimum in order to meet this rise. Itโs just fair.
A word from the big boss, Matt Sims:
At a time when household budgets are set to be squeezed and there is a genuine risk of โtoo much month at the end of the moneyโ a living wage is critically important. We all work incredibly hard in our business and we are passionate about its success. I believe it is only fair that our team’s work is rewarded with the same passion so that their leisure time can be just as rewarding. I believe a minimum wage should be a living wage. Anything less is counter productive and creates a greater need for government assistance. Itโs that simple.
– Matt Sims, MD of The Motorhome Holiday Company and That Leisure Shop
Why weโre a Living Wage Employer
We agree strongly with the central idea of the Living Wage movement, which is simply that a fair dayโs work deserves a fair dayโs pay. We ensure our staff feel appreciated by paying them what they are worth. We believe that everybody benefits from us paying the real Living Wage, because a properly valued workforce makes for a better work life for all. We are proud to say that our team is fairly compensated for their dedication and hard work, and they are happier and motivated because of it.
In 2022, the Living Wage Foundation achieved:
- A record-breaking 2,533 businesses accredited in 2021, bringing the movement to over 9,000 Living Wage Employers, which now includes half of the FSTE 100;
- 67,900 additional workers saw a pay rise as a result, bringing the total to 300,000 workers lifted onto the Living Wage;
- ยฃ1.7bn has gone back into the pockets of low-paid workers; and 7 more employers showed leadership by signing up to become Living Hours Employers.
