Alan’s Family Motorhome Holiday Experience

Back in 2020, Alan decided to do something different for his first post-lockdown holiday, he decided to take his two daughters away on their first ever motorhome holiday!

Safe to say he wasnโ€™t sure whether the teenagers would enjoy it, but we are very happy to report that they had a great time! The freedom to pack up and go whenever they wanted meant they could avoid bad weather and really make the most of their holiday time.

I think our post lockdown holiday was by far the best thing that I’ve ever done. I have to say, we really, really needed it. We rented a fantastic motorhome from Motorhome Holiday Company. To be honest, it was a little bit scary driving it for the first five minutes, but after that, it was absolutely fine. It was no problem.

Obviously, what you do is you stick to the larger roads. You don’t go down the tiny country roads, but to be honest, even the ones we did go down were okay because you just learn how to drive it. It was so much fun, I have to say.

It was me and my two daughters. With both of them being teenagers, it was kind of unexpected how much we enjoyed it. We went out to places that we’d never normally go to. The weather wasn’t the greatest – it was a bit grey and overcast, but we found ourselves on beaches. If we went to an area that we weren’t that keen on, then we just jumped in the van, took a look at a map, and said, “Well, where should we go now?”

We were originally going to go to Cornwall, but on the day before, someone said it’d be way too crowded down there, and we should try the south of Wales. So, we just changed direction. We drove along and stopped at a couple of campsites along the way, which were beautiful. We found ourselves wandering around Tenby at one stage, which again was unplanned, but that’s the beauty. You can pretty much go anywhere you fancy when you feel like it.

Eating was no problem – it became a bit of a family affair. We all mucked in and it was a good laugh. We played more games than we probably ever have played – it was lovely. The holiday brought the family together. The actual van itself was fantastic. It had all the mod cons. It was beautiful. It was like mobile glamping, but honestly I can’t recommend it enough. It really was fantastic. And getting away after lockdown – we needed it. We really, really did.
