West Sussex Days out
Best for families: Fishers Farm Park
One of the top family days out in West Sussex, Fishers Farm Park has great activities for all the family. With pony and tractor rides, the Higgledy Village Play Barn and animal shows, there are lots of opportunities to reconnect with nature.
Best for walkers: Petworth House and Park
Petworth House is surrounded by extensive 700-acre grounds, including a deer park and the informal yet immaculate Pleasure Ground, which was landscaped by Capability Brown in the 18th century. Dogs are very welcome within the grounds, with the deer park a great place to let them run off lead.
Best for the restless: Cobnor Activities Centre
Cobnor’s range of water-based activities include family sailing days and canoe safaris. If some of you feel like keeping your feet dry, try one of the family activity days (for parents and children aged 7 years and over) with climbing, archery, low ropes and aero-ball, as well as canoeing, kayaking and the super-fun raft building and racing.
West Sussex Beaches
Best for sunbathing and paddling: West Wittering
Located at the mouth of Chichester Harbour, West Wittering has an attractive sandy beach within a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The sloping sandy beach is lined with multi coloured beach huts (available to hire) in a relatively flat coastal area. Access is fairly easy over the sand dunes but there is limited disabled access. The beach is divided by groynes to prevent coastal erosion and faces the Solent and the Isle of Wight. It’s an ideal beach for sunbathing, paddling and watersports such as surfing, windsurfing and kite-surfing when conditions are right. Although largely undeveloped there are facilities including toilets, showers, parking and a café.
Best for Dogs: Climping beach
Climping beach is a quiet rural beach located about halfway between Littlehampton and Bognor. Like many of the beaches along this stretch of the Sussex coast it is made up of shingle and pebbles held in place by a series of wooden groynes. As the tide goes out a vast expanse of sand is exposed.
Unlike the popular town beaches nearby, Climping (or Atherington) Beach is backed by low sand dunes and fields. Much of this area is now protected, being designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). This means the sand dunes are fenced off to prevent further erosion in many places.
Best for families: Littlehampton
The mile long sand and shingle beach at Littlehampton is everything you would expect from a long established seaside resort. There is a promenade, amusements, theme park, well maintained seafront gardens and even the UK’s longest bench. Yes, there is a 1,000 feet long bench running along Littlehampton’s seafront.
As a regular contender for the coveted Blue Flag award Littlehampton Beach has no shortage of facilities to hand. It is also patrolled by RNLI Lifeguards during the summer months and a Kidcare wristband scheme operates to make the beach super safe for families.

The Ouse Valley Viaduct
Carrying the London-Brighton Railway Line over the River Ouse in Sussex, the Ouse Valley Viaduct is famous for its ornate, beautiful design.
Chichester Cathedral
The magnificent Cathedral has stood at the centre of Chichester for over 900 years. As well as daily services, Chichester Cathedral is open to visitors and is frequently used as a venue for music and art events.
