What to pack for a safe motorhome holiday

As travel plans out of the UK remain uncertain and more people opt to plan a staycation this summer, campsites and holiday parks are busy implementing new Covid-19 safety measures. Shared facilities like showers and toilets are now open across the UK but the advice is still to holiday in your bubble. So what can you pack for a safe motorhome holiday?

Sanitising essentials

Hand Sanitiser

If you havenโ€™t already, buying a bulk lot of hand sanitiser to take with you out and about is the number one travel essential. On holiday youโ€™re not always near facilities to wash your hands often, so keep a little bottle with you wherever you go.

Hand Soap

Regularly washing hands is the best way to prevent the spread of viruses and illness. When you hire from us youโ€™ll find a bottle of hand soap in the bathroom, but you may want to bring extra for longer trips.

Face masks

It’s likely that face masks are going to be an essential item for quite a while, whether you’re in the UK or heading abroad. Best to pack plenty of good quality masks for your trip as you may not be able to wash them as often as usual (if they’re reusable) or you may lose some.

Antibacterial surface spray

Another item we provide as a complimentary when you hire with us, this is ideal for sterilising surfaces, handles, wrappers or other objects as you go to prevent introducing anything nasty into your clean motorhome bubble.

Washing up liquid

An essential even at non-pandemic times to keep all your cookware and utensils sparkling clean, youโ€™ll want a good quality washing up liquid to get rid of germs. We provide a bottle in our hire motorhomes for your holiday.

Water sterilising tablets

Many wild campers will already know the importance of sterilising sourced water. Now that many of us are extra aware of bacteria it is good practice to keep a stock of sterilising tablets and a water container ready.

Holiday safetyย

Sun cream

It may be easy to forget about other enemies at the moment, but remembering to protect your skin is still just as important as ever. Getting good quality, high SPF sun cream is always an essential, even on cloudy days. Grab a waterproof bottle if youโ€™re planning to spend a lot of time relaxing in the water.

Insect repellent

No one wants to be bitten alive by bugs, so make sure to invest in an insect repellent. These products sometimes aren’t very effective for some people, so it’s best to do some research and see if thereโ€™s one that works for you, even if it means trying a few out.

First aid kit

Cuts and scrapes are bound to happen, especially for active and adventurous holidays. Keeping a well stocked first aid kit will help you heal up and keep going. Check that all products are still in date before you head off.

Whistle or alarm

Many first aid kits come with a whistle but you may also want to invest in a safety alarm, particularly if you are holidaying alone. There are many types and brands out there so best to do your research first.

Based on our own years of motorhome holidays, we created a suggested packing checklist of items that you might consider packing. This takes into account the essential things already included in our motorhome hire (like cookware, cutlery and complimentary cleaning supplies) leaving you more space to pack the fun stuff (like water pistols, BBQs and wine).

Bikes and sports equipment

All our motorhomes have a garage large enough to fit bikes, or a bike rack fitted to the rear. Bike rides are a great way to explore your destination and get the whole family out together, so we always advise taking them along!

They are also very useful if you’re planning on staying in one spot for a while during your holiday. When you need to pop out to grab some milk for your morning coffee, instead of having to pack up the motorhome to drive into town you can just hop on your bike. That’s also why we usually recommend finding a campsite that is close to some trails or cycle paths.
