This morning, our MD Matt talks with Felicity Hannah about the demand for domestic holidays, commonly known as Staycations, as lockdown eases.
Invited onto the Radio 5 live show (again), Matt was joined by Simon Tempest, Technical Director of Willerby static homes and Rachel Gwennap, who runs Treverven Touring Park.
The conversation reflected on the perceived madness to book a UK holiday in 2021. Matt reported that, as a business, The Motorhome Holiday Company are already 80% booked up for this summer, with very limited availability. (Fear not, dear customers, we have some new motorhomes joining us and we expect to be announcing them in May 2021).
Simon reported that if you were to order a brand new Willerby static home with one of their dealers, it would be delivered in Summer 2022. Their team are working flat out to meet the demand. Whilst Rachel reflected on their bookings at the touring park being up, as well as some of the challenges for holiday parks to create a ‘Covid Safe’ environment.
The panel was challenged, by a text from a listener, that a caravan or camping holiday would be a ‘last resort’. For some, that may be true – but not for us!
Matt commented after the interview, “I still believe many consumers have not made firm holiday plans yet. The trend for “spread booking”, in which a customer has the same week booked in numerous locations, including the UK and abroad, to hedge their bets in case of cancellations. We will see what impact this has on us, although many of our customers who have booked have already made the decision to have a staycation and holiday in the UK.
He went on to add, “Thank you to BBC Radio 5 Live for inviting us once again on the BBC! It’s always a pleasure.” (we think Matt was pretty chuffed to be referred to as the “BBC’s Motorhome Correspondent”).
