Motorhomes have a reliable electrical system that runs off the leisure battery or by “hooking up” to an electric source on a site. The USB sockets on board the motorhome operate regardless of whether it is hooked up or not. In contrast, the 3-pin mains sockets only function when the vehicle is hooked up to a power source.
Heating and cooking systems in a motorhome are powered by an integral gas system. For each hire, two gas bottles are included, which should provide enough fuel for a typical trip.
An electric hook-up cable is provided with your hire. If you’re planning to connect to your home’s main, please let us know and we can provide you with an adapter.
It is important to note that using generators is not permitted as they can damage the motorhome’s electrical system, resulting in the loss of the deposit.
Using the motorhome off-grid
All of our motorhomes use a 12v system, so even without hooking up to mains 230v electricity, all of the essential systems will continue to work, including the lights, water pump, heating, and fridge. However, the 3-pin mains sockets will not function without electricity.
This arrangement allows you to camp for several days without any external power supply, making it an ideal solution for outdoor events such as Glastonbury or exploring remote areas of Scotland. Electric sockets
This is a common question we receive from holidaymakers, especially when it comes to using devices like hair straighteners. The 3-pin electrical sockets in motorhomes only work when they are plugged into mains electricity. In order for these devices to work, the motorhome must be connected to a site’s mains electricity.
It’s important to remember that there is no inverter in the motorhome to create 230v from the 12v battery. If you’re planning to use devices that require mains electricity, be sure to connect your motorhome to the campsite’s electrical supply.
Fridges
Our motorhome fridges are designed to work on multiple power sources, including gas, 12v from the engine alternator, and mains electricity. In most cases, the fridge will automatically select the power source that is available.
We provide training as part of the handover process, and written instructions are also provided to ensure you know how to use the fridge correctly.
Winter travel
For a winter adventure, our team can provide advice on selecting a motorhome that suits the weather conditions of your trip. Our motorhomes are designed to withstand extreme temperatures, allowing you to stay comfortable even in sub-zero conditions.
We’ve had customers go skiing in temperatures as low as -18 degrees Celsius while wearing short sleeves inside the motorhome.
