All motorhome hire drivers require a full UK driving licence that is clean and has been held for 2 years. We’ll accept 3 points in the last 5 years, but any more than this will require a conversation with our insurers. We will ask you to send us your driving licence details via the DVLA website.
C1 licence entitlement
To drive a motorhome over 3500kg you do need a C1 entitlement on your licence. Only a few of our motorhomes require this and it is stated clearly on the listing page. If you are not sure if you have a C1 entitlement you can look on the back of your driving license under the entitlements list.
Paper driving licence
If you passed your driving test before 1997 it is possible that you have only a paper driving licence. This is still a valid form of ID but we will also require a form of official photo ID, such as your passport.
If you passed your test after 1997, your paper licence is no longer valid and you should apply for a photo-card licence.
Non-UK driving licences
We accept non-UK driving licences and will require a copy of your licence and an additional form of photo ID, such as your passport, as well as a form of address ID, such as a utility bill.
It is important to note that an increase in insurance excess may apply to some non-EU countries.
Points on your licence
It is still possible to hire a motorhome even if you have points on your license, 2 sets of 3 points is generally fine, but it will depend on the details of your specific situation. You can let us know the details of your endorsements, and we can advise you on whether or not our insurers will cover you.
However, it’s important to note that our insurers will not cover certain endorsements, such as drink driving.
