Motorhomes are great for travelling and exploring, but sometimes you may want to stay longer in one place to explore the local area. This raises the question of whether you need to pack up your motorhome every time you go out for the day. Fortunately, there are other options for getting around while on holiday in a motorhome.
Bikes
Our motorhomes come equipped with either a bike rack or a garage for storage, allowing you to bring your bikes with you wherever you go. However, it’s essential to research your destination beforehand and assess the terrain between the campsite and your desired destination, particularly if you plan on taking short rides for errands like picking up groceries.
If you intend to bring electric bikes, please speak with us, as a garage is the safest place to store them, given their heavier weight and potential safety concerns with bike racks.
Buses and public transport
Choosing a campsite that’s located on a local bus route or new a train station can be quite beneficial. However, it’s essential to research beforehand, particularly when travelling to rural areas where public transport may not be reliable. It’s advisable to contact the campsite to check bus availability to ensure you have a stress-free and convenient travel experience.
An extra car
Driving separately can be an option if you’re hiring a motorhome for a short-distance trip and not travelling too far from the starting point. It can also be useful if you’re hiring a motorhome with fewer seatbelts than beds, where some passengers could drive separately and still sleep in the same motorhome.
However, for longer journeys or road trips, we don’t usually recommend this as we believe motorhome holidays are meant to be experienced together. Driving and all.
Reserving your pitch
If you decide not to take any extra transport and pack up the motorhome each time you go out for the day, you will need to consider the pitch you choose. When you return, it can sometimes be a challenge to find the same pitch available. To avoid this, some people leave a little sign or something of little value on the pitch to indicate that it is taken. This is often managed by campsite reception or wardens, but on smaller sites, this may not be the case.
