To drive our hire motorhomes, you must have held a full UK driving license for at least two years and be between 25 and 79 years and 364 days of age.
Our insurer’s cut-off date is your 80th birthday, but we may still be able to arrange insurance for you if you’re over 80.
Some of our motorhomes require a C1 entitlement on your driving license because they weigh over 3500kg. Any motorhome that requires this will clearly state so on the listing page. If you are not sure if you have this, look on the back of your driving license under the entitlements list.
Required ID
We need the following from all motorhome drivers:
- Photo card driver’s licence with up-to-date address (copy of paper licence if pre-1997 pass)
- Two proofs of address from separate sources (see criteria below)
- A traceable security deposit (BACS, Credit/Debit Card, PayPal, Cheque)
- An online DVLA licence check for UK drivers
Proof of address
You must provide a total of 2 proofs of address from the following: –
1x primary proof of address and 1x secondary proof of address, or 2x primary proof of address.
Primary Proof of Address:
- Utility bill (electricity, water, gas, broadband, landline, tv license)
- Council tax
- Bank Statement
- Credit card bill/statement
- Mortgage statement
- Polling card
- HMRC self-assessment/tax credit/DWP
Secondary Proof of Address:
- Student loan
- Shotgun licence
- Payslip
- Mobile Phone Bills
- Pension letters
- Car Finance Statement
- Loan Statement
- Property deed
Both must be dated within 90 days of the hire date. The name and address on your licence must match both documents.
Criminal records
In order to ensure the validity of your insurance, it is important that you disclose any current criminal convictions. Our team can present the details of any past or pending convictions to our insurers for consideration, along with your driving history and current licence status. It’s worth noting that you may still be able to hire and drive a motorhome with some criminal convictions.
Diabetes and health conditions
For your safety and the safety of others, we require you to declare any mental or physical conditions, heart conditions, seizures, or diabetes before hiring one of our motorhomes.
This information is then presented to our insurers, who will make a decision based on the condition and its impact on your ability to drive safely. Generally, if your condition requires you to inform the DVLA and they allow you to drive, our insurers will likely allow you to drive one of our motorhomes as well.
Additional drivers
For insurance purposes, we require all additional drivers to provide identification and answer the same set of questions as the primary driver. They must also sign and return the hire agreement to be covered by our insurance.
There is a daily cost for adding extra drivers, and no one else may drive the motorhome without our prior permission. However, in the event of an emergency, we can facilitate short notice additional drivers with our insurer’s permission. Please ask for further details if you require an additional driver.
