In the latest in our series of blogs about our motorhomes for hire, we’re taking a trip to Germany with our Dethleffs Sunlight A70. This six-berth, German-built, family motorhome is a fine example of European motorhome design. Dethleffs have crafted a very flexible four-wheeled living space with a beautifully high-quality finish that’s incredibly popular with families and groups who want space as well as style.
The Dethleffs Sunlight A70 sleeps six people in three separate sleeping areas, ensuring it’s a perfect fit for families and traveling groups alike. As you’ll see from the photos on the Motorhome Holiday Company website, the first is a generous over cab double bed. At the rear of the Sunlight A70 is a raised large double bed that sits above the garage (more of that in a moment). The third sleeping compartment is realised through a quick conversion of the dinning area, so whether you’re a party of six singles in sleeping bags or three couples snuggling up for the night, the Sunlight A70 offers a good night’s sleep wherever you park it.
When we refer to the Dethleffs Sunlight A70 as a six berth, we don’t just mean it has beds for six, but has six seatbelts, ensuring that a total of six people may travel legally in it. Whilst we’re dealing with legalities, at under 3,500kg, you can drive the Sunlight A70 on a standard car licence.
In the dinette, as well as comfortable seating around a large table, you’ll find a wardrobe, plenty of cupboard space and LED lighting throughout, as well as a TV and DVD player for those colder evenings when you feel like staying in. The kitchen, meanwhile, boasts a three-ring gas hob, gas oven and grill, fridge/freezer and all the usual cutlery and utensils.
The bathroom is fully kitted out with a flushing cassette toilet, hot and cold water, a shower and large mirrors that will suit all the family members, no matter what their age. As you’d expect from one of our motorhomes, both the water and heating are powered by gas and electricity, so you’ll be able to shower in the warm, whether you’re hooked up in your favourite woodland campsite or living the dream off-grid by a Scottish loch.
On the back of our Dethleffs Sunlight A70, you’ll find a bike rack for four, while in the garage, which is by far the biggest in this motorhome class, we’ve packed a camping table and chairs as well as the standard levelling ramps, hook up cable, water pipe and gas bottles. Despite these, we reckon there’s ample space for your inflatable kayaks, golf bags or climbing gear so that you’re not cluttering up the motorhome. And if, last thing at night, you find you’ve left something important in the garage but don’t want to go outside in your pyjamas, fear not; there’s an access door under the rear bed.
As with all our Adria motorhomes, the Dethleffs Sunlight A70 is built on a Fiat chassis. It makes short work of the hills around Snowdonia with its 2.3l engine, whilst the manual six-speed gearbox and cruise control make it a joy to drive. We’ll leave the soundtrack for your road-trip up to you, though the CD/radio/MP3 player gives you plenty of options.
